Past Events

This year’s Annual Meeting of the Nob Hill Association, held at the University Club, at the corner of California and Powell, was one of the most informative in the history of the organization.
After the meeting was called to order by President Robert Varni, Vice President Gary Gielow, Chair of the Nominating Committee, placed into nomination the slate of new directors which was unanimously approved by the members.
Vice President David Harmer then gave a comprehensive report on the progress of the Live Nation efforts reporting that, while we won our cases in court, Live Nation and the Masonic Temple have once again begun their arguments, this time revised, before the City Agencies. This means that we will eventually end up in court again. Every dollar and every hour that anyone can contribute to this cause will be greatly appreciated.
Supervisor David Chiu was present and reported on Live Nation as it will again proceed through the City Boards.
Vice President Steven Patton gave a comprehensive report on how we are working on returning Huntington Park to its past glory. He introduced Dennis Kearn, Director of Operations for the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department, who reported on city efforts for the park.
Board Member Ray Brown conducted an extemporaneous fund-raising among the members present to raise money for new LED tree lighting for Huntington Park. He succeeded in raising $7,000.
The meeting was excellent with good food and drink and we believe everyone left with a strong positive feeling toward the current direction of the Nob Hill Association.
Donors Inspired to Provide Lights for 2012!
Inspired by the hard work and generosity of Ray Brown and 2010 light donors, Herb Kritz and Elizabeth Woodall,  the following members  responded to Board Member Ray Brown’s request with donations totaling $7,000.  These funds will be used to purchase lights to complete the transition to energy saving LED lighting for next year’s 2012 Tree Lighting Ceremony!  We would like to thank and salute the following members for ensuring lights for years to come!

Dorothy Fritz Cope Tree Lighting Ceremony

November 28, 2011

The Annual Dorothy Fritz Cope Tree Lighting Ceremony in Huntington Park, held on Monday, November 28th, was a great success!  The Fairmont Hotel hosted our members and guests, providing delicious complimentary appetizers and a no host bar.  At 5:30 members from the San Francisco Girls Chorus sang holiday carols in the Park, to the delight of the crowd.  At 6:00, after brief remarks made by Board Vice President Gary Gielow, Grace Cathedral’s Dean Shaw and Dennis Ken, Director of Operations for the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department, the light switch was turned on and the trees were lit up in bright colors. Hot chocolate was served in the park, compliments of the Fairmont Hotel, and a very special evening was had by all.

The California Mille unites an international group of rare sports racing and production cars dating from 1927 through 1957 for a 1000-mile journey throughout Northern California. The tour is patterned after the world-famous Italian “Mille Miglia”, a 1000-mile open road race which ran from 1927 through 1957 from Brescia in the North of Italy to Rome and back. It was revived in 1982 as an annual event and co-chaired by the late Dame Bella Farrow. Today, the California Mille is the only American event once recognized by the Mille Miglia Storica (Historical Society) of Brescia, Italy.
