Organ Recital by Raphael Attila Vogl

Join us as we kick off the 2024-25 Organ Recital Series with sensational young German organist Raphael Vogl. Currently a doctoral student at Juilliard, Vogl is sure to dazzle us with his artistry. His program will feature virtuosic music of the 19th century by Max Reger, and his own transcription of the final portion of Anton Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony, a genre where our 1930s organ and cathedral acoustic excel.
Our organ recital series features some of the finest organists playing one of America’s great organs. Grace Cathedral’s 7,466-pipe Aeolian-Skinner instrument, the Charles B. Alexander Memorial Organ (1934), is one of the first and finest American classic-style organs and is among the largest church organs in the West. Experiencing music in our gothic cathedral with its unique acoustics, soaring nave, and jewel-like stained glass windows is a feast for the ears, eyes, and soul.
Please note there is an admission fee for visitors on Sundays from 1 to 5 pm. Those wishing to attend the organ recital must register in advance to avoid paying the fee. Thank you for your understanding.

Event Details
The concert will also be livestreamed here and on YouTube. The cathedral will open for seating at 3:30 pm. The entrance to the cathedral is at the top of the Great Steps. The accessible entrance is via the glass doors on Taylor Street or from the cathedral garage. Masks are strongly encouraged inside the cathedral.
About the Organist
German organist Raphael Attila Vogl began his early musical study with cathedral organist Ludwig Ruckdeschel in Passau, Germany. At the age of 18, he attended the Hochschule für Katholische Kirchenmusik und Musikpädagogik (College for Catholic Church Music & Music Education) in Regensburg, Germany. While in Regensburg, he studied Organ Performance and Church Music under Stefan Baier and Markus Rupprecht. Subsequently, he studied under László Fassang for one year at the Franz-Liszt-Academy in Budapest, Hungary. Raphael graduated with a Master’s degree in Organ Performance from the world-famous Juilliard School in 2020, where he studied under the Grammy Award-winning Paul Jacobs. The following year, he was admitted to the most advanced course of study offered at The Juilliard School — The Doctor of Musical Arts.
Raphael A. Vogl has participated in various competitions, winning prizes in The International Mendelssohn Organ Competition in Switzerland, The International Tariverdiev Competition in Russia, and The Boulder Bach Festivals World Bach Competition. Raphael made his Alice Tully Hall debut in 2020, where he performed the New York premiere of Sophia Gubaidulina’s The Rider on the White Horse at the Focus Festival at Lincoln Center. As a concert organist, he has performed in concert halls and cathedrals across Europe and America, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Madison Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
